What Do You Really Need in a WordPress Starter Theme?

I think it’s safe to say that I’m somewhat obsessed with themes that help you get your WordPress projects started quickly. Most likely because I’ve been there, staring at an empty project folder wondering where I should begin. Well, you shouldn’t have to stare at that empty folder for any project. Even when you’re starting from scratch you’re probably not really starting from scratch, right? You’re taking an existing WordPress theme, either your own or someone elses, and hacking at it until it’s something new. That theme is your Starter Theme.

A Quick Look at SEO and Back Links

We often get asked: How can you get me to the front page of Google? Well, there’s several ways. Paid (search engine marketing or SEM), free (organic) search results, back links, etc.

The paid route offers immediate turn around time. Customers that are looking for your product/service are able to find it quick as your Website is prominently displayed on the top of search results based on their keywords. The organic approach, however, is long lasting and will have an overall general benefit to your Website and your business.

Then, we usually get this response: Well, Acme Links and SEO, Inc. (fictional company) called me and said they can add ten words to my Website and give me hundreds of links each month which will get me to the front page. Our general response is: You can achieve that by blogging and partnering up with local business owners and link to each other’s Websites.

In a nutshell: You establish your expertise in your field when you blog in addition to taking control of your SEO, and, when you link to local business partners in your market and they in return link to you – you establish your Website’s authority and reputation. People can trust you because other local business owners (and members of the community) trust you.

Yes, there is some code and tech-y stuff that we do that improves a Website’s appearance in search results, but on the internet, content is king. Keep the content relevant and to-the-point, and, add a link or two when necessary. Your audience awaits.
